Services

B’ahava Veterinary Health and Wellbeing offers an integrative approach to veterinary medicine and compliments the care provided by your pet’s primary care veterinarian. While we can support your pet at any point during their lifetime, many of our clients consult our services after they have exhausted options available through conventional (Western) medicine with their primary care and/or specialty veterinarian. We strongly believe in using a truly integrative approach where both Eastern and Western medicine can be used cohesively to provide the best possible care for your pet.

During the initial consultation, we will work with you to determine a treatment plan that could include any or all pillars of Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM) – acupuncture, herbal therapy, food therapy, and Tui-na.

Services Provided

As a practice offering Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM), we have a number of additional tools available to support your pet. Dr. Levin-Russo is trained in all four of the pillars of TCVM and will work with you one-on-one to find the best options for your companion animal.

Please note that we do not offer conventional medicine services (vaccines, x-ray, emergency care, etc.) and encourage you to continue working with your primary care veterinarian for those needs.

Setting Expectations - The First Appointment

  • An initial consultation and examination is required for all new patients to establish a veterinarian-client-patient relationship and determine a TCVM Bian Zheng, or Pattern Diagnosis.
  • After establishing this TCVM Pattern Diagnosis, a treatment plan can be developed and discussed at length.
  • Due to Texas Veterinary State Law, telemedicine appointments are not an option for the first examination. Thus, Dr. Levin-Russo is unable to consult with you regarding how your pet could benefit from TCVM without first examining your pet.
  • Treatment can be provided at the first appointment if requested in advance. Please see details below of the types of appointments available to you and your pet.
  • For further instructions on how to set up an appointment and what to expect going into the first appointment, please see the New Patient Timeline.
  • If an appointment with treatment is selected:
o Following the initial treatment, patients often require at least 2 additional visits.
o This, however, can vary based on the patient’s condition(s) and will be discussed as part of the treatment plan during the initial consultation.

Recheck

Following the initial treatment, patients often require at least 2 additional visits. However, this can vary based on the patient’s condition(s) and will be discussed as part of the treatment plan during the initial consultation. Visits after the initial consultation are classified as a ‘recheck’ for patients that have been seen in the last 12 months. Most recheck appointments are about 90 minutes and include treatment. However, for patients that do not tolerate acupuncture or are primarily using herbal or food therapy, there is an option of a 45 minute recheck without treatment.

Additional Services

In addition to services provided during an appointment, we are able to provide our active patients additional therapies if appropriate for their treatment plan. These are additional services that incur a separate fee. Recommendations for these services are highly contingent on the patient’s presenting complaint and TCVM diagnosis.

Herbal Therapy

Herbal therapy can be prescribed to provide ongoing support between visits. Dr. Levin-Russo will work with you to pick the appropriate herbals for your pet's TCVM diagnosis and can drop ship the herbals directly to your door.

Food Therapy

In addition to general nutrition recommendations during an appointment, Dr. Levin-Russo is a Certified Veterinary Food Therapist* and can work with you to build a custom diet specific to your pet's TCVM pattern diagnosis, palate, and budget.

*Please note Dr. Levin-Russo is not a board-certified veterinary nutritionist and only maintains a certification in Food Therapy as it relates to Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). Please click here for more information on how Dr. Levin-Russo is able to work with a board-certified veterinary nutritionist to develop a complete and balanced diet guided by TCVM thermogenic principles.
